Welcome to the SMIILE Physiotherapy Peregian Beach family.
If you’re coming in for physiotherapy treatment for the first time, we’d like you to know what to expect; we want you to feel relaxed and comfortable.
It is important to know that Physiotherapists are primary contact practitioners, so no referral is required for private patients.
To get a Medicare rebate for physiotherapy you’ll need to be eligible for the Chronic Disease Management Program (formerly an EPC) and have a referral form from your GP.
People who have a chronic medical condition and complex care needs and are being managed by their GP under a GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangements are eligible for Medicare rebates for certain allied health services on referral from their GP. A chronic condition may include symptoms of musculoskeletal origin like back pain, neck pain, headaches and sports injuries. Physiotherapists work with your GP as part of the team care arrangement for the GP Management Plan.
So have a talk with your GP next time you visit or visit the Australian Government – Department of Health website to learn more.
Preparing for your first physiotherapy visit
We advise you to wear loose, comfortable clothing for your first appointment. In addition, please bring any medical records, scans or imaging related to your current health issue. If you’ve had recent testing but no access to copies, let us know before your appointment. We can make arrangements to obtain your records from your healthcare provider.
Fees for private patients are due at the time of service. We have HICAPS available, please bring your private health card, or phone if using your digital fund card, for us to process the rebate.
Your Initial Visit
During your first session, you will have your therapist’s undivided attention in a private treatment room for approximately 30 minutes. Follow up sessions are often 30 minutes but maybe a little less or longer depending on your specific needs.
You’ll receive an extensive assessment with one of our experienced physiotherapists, which will include:
- A consultation
- A detailed health history
- Musculoskeletal or vestibular testing
This visit will also include your first physiotherapy treatment.
Physiotherapy Fees
Our fees are shown on our Contact Us page – please click here to view.
We accept cash, EFTPOS, Mastercard and Visa (surcharges apply).
Health Insurance Rebates
We are a Medibank Member’s Choice and HCF More for Members Preferred Provider. These funds provide a higher rebate to preferred providers who reduce their fees so that members have less out-of-pocket cost.
The rebate you receive from your private health fund depends on the fund and your level of cover. We recommend contacting your fund should you wish to know your out-of-pocket expense. The item codes for Physiotherapy are 500 (Initial Assessment) and 505 (Subsequent Assessment).
We have a HICAPS machine so you can claim from private health funds on the spot and pay only a gap (the difference between the full fee and the amount your health fund will cover). Please be sure to bring your health fund card.

Cancellation Policy
Our Physiotherapists often run back-to-back and have active waiting lists, so if you cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours’ notice you will be liable for a cancellation fee. A cancellation is considered late when the appointment is cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointed time. A no-show is when a patient misses an appointment without cancelling. In either case, we will charge the patient a $50 cancellation fee as per our Cancellation Policy – SP – Cancellation Policy July 2022.
For new patients’ first appointments, a no show or late cancellation will result in a full charge of the treating physiotherapist new patient fee
Giving us as much notice as possible helps us better serve you and our other patients and allow us to contact someone on our active waitlist. If you cannot keep your appointment, please call us as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate and reschedule your appointment.
Additionally, to ensure that you receive a thorough assessment and treatment we ask you to arrive on time for your appointments. If you do arrive late to your appointment, note that we cannot extend the time lost into our next appointment slot.
